Desouki Meets International Expert Ashraf Abdel Basir, Chairman of Mecorr

Eng. Gaber Desouky: We are keen on the existence of systems to protect power plants from rust and corrosion

Engineer Ashraf Abdel Basir: Mecorr will not hesitate to provide international consultants free of charge to train some cadres of the oil and electricity sectors and the Ministry of Irrigation and water and sanitation facilities

Eng. Gaber Desouky, Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, met with Engineer Ashraf Abdel Basir Ali, Chairman of “Mecorr” for Petroleum Services and General and Specialized Contracting.

The meeting discussed the modern procedures to avoid the fires of the stations due to the leakage of fuel caused by rust and corrosion of pipelines and warehouses.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company stressed his keenness on the existence of systems to protect the power plants from rust and corrosion, which may cause leaks and losses in lives and investments. This leads to the stopping of the stations to work to repair what is damaged by corrosion in addition to the negative effects of fires and leaking fuel on the environment.

The global losses due to corrosion fires and explosions are estimated at 2.5 trillion dollars a year, according to the reports of specialized international bodies.

US reports estimate the cost of erosion in the United States to a significant proportion of national income equivalent to about 4% of US gross national income.

Eng. Ashraf Abdel Basir pointed to the increasing fires in the oil warehouses, pipelines and explosions of water and fuel pipes, which sounds a big alarm in light of the age of many oil facilities and water and gas pipelines.

He pointed out that Egypt needs to reconsider its legislation and expedite the issuance of binding legislation for all parties that manage metal lines and warehouses leakable because of the risk of corrosion.

He suggested that companies make technological tests to measure the level of corrosion and determine the remaining shelf life of the lines and warehouses before their collapse and the application of anti-corrosion systems in force in most countries of the world, which has become one of the conditions of international insurance companies to work on the insurance facility.

He added that Egypt has the internationally accredited expertise to apply this technology in Egypt.Micor will not hesitate to provide international consultants free of charge to train some cadres of the oil and electricity sectors and the Ministry of Irrigation and Water and Sanitation facilities as a simple contribution to verify the presence of qualified cadres to protect the metal installations from these risks.

Micor will also contribute to the risk assessment of the stations exposed to this risk if used, and the company has already carried out an assessment of the Ataka power plant.

As a result of this fruitful meeting held between the Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and the Chairman of Mecorr, Eng. Ashraf Abdel Basir
